Disable Profile Sync on One Device
Stop profile uploads from the current device, understand retained local and remote data, and turn synchronization back on safely.
Updated Aug 24, 2026“Do not sync profile data” is a global setting for the current device and applies to every browser profile on that device. It does not follow the account to other devices and does not delete data that was uploaded earlier.
This option is enabled by default. If the local setting is missing or unreadable, the client also prevents uploads so local profile data is not sent unexpectedly.
Confirm the scope first
Open Account Settings, then Preferences, and locate the option to stop profile data sync. After you enable it, the current device stops uploading profile data, including normal uploads after shutdown and retries for local changes that have not uploaded.
What remains available
- Local profile data remains on the device.
- Changes that have not uploaded stay local.
- The device does not request an upload destination or write a new remote package.
- If no usable local data exists, the client can still retrieve an existing remote backup.
- Other devices follow their own sync settings.
Turn sync back on
Before re-enabling sync, confirm that the local data on this device is the version you want to continue. After sync is enabled, retained local changes can upload during a later profile launch or shutdown flow.
Avoid version conflicts
Do not stop uploads on one device and then modify the same profile concurrently from several devices. Close the profile normally before switching devices. If the correct version is uncertain, preserve the local state instead of repeatedly launching and overwriting the evidence.
