Profile Sync, Backup, and Recovery Updates · Guide

Update the desktop client safely

Review release notes, verify and install an update, and respond correctly to staged or required upgrades.

Updated Aug 24, 2026

Client updates can include browser compatibility changes, security fixes, and product improvements. MaskPilot presents version details before installation and verifies the downloaded file’s SHA-256 against the server release record.

Before updating

  1. Close all running profiles normally.
  2. Wait for necessary sync work to finish.
  3. Read the release notes, especially changes involving browsers, extensions, or proxies.
  4. Leave enough time to validate critical workflows.

Install the update

Choose download from the update notice. The client revalidates release metadata and the file SHA-256 after download and before opening the installer; continue only after verification succeeds. Windows installers are not Authenticode-signed.

Do not force-quit the process or turn off the device during installation. Reopen MaskPilot afterward and validate one test profile before returning to regular work.

Staged rollouts

A release may become available in stages. Two devices can receive the prompt at different times. This is expected and is not a reason to install an early package from an unofficial source.

Required upgrades

When an older version has a compatibility or security issue, the client may require an update before use. Close profiles, complete sync, and then install the trusted version shown by the client.

If the update fails

  • Keep the current version and do not run an unverified installer.
  • Check the local network, available disk space, and security software notices.
  • Reopen the client and try once more.
  • If it still fails, record the version and visible error before contacting support.

If a new version affects a core workflow, stop the broader rollout and follow the recovery or rollback guidance presented by the client.
