Why a Proxy Changes the Browser Time Zone
Learn how MaskPilot selects the browser time zone from the current proxy exit and troubleshoot overridden settings, route changes, or failed detection.
Updated Aug 24, 2026When a profile has an assigned proxy, MaskPilot checks the exit information through the actual route before every browser launch and uses the time zone associated with that exit. This live result takes priority over a fixed time zone saved in the profile and over the previous result shown in the proxy list.
The browser time zone can therefore change after the proxy, upstream route, or exit node changes. MaskPilot does not continue using a stale fixed or cached value.
How each connection mode selects a time zone
Open the profile’s fingerprint settings and find Time zone:
- Assigned proxy: launch checks the current exit through the complete proxy route. The live result has final priority even if the profile previously selected a fixed time zone.
- Direct connection with a fixed time zone: the browser uses the value saved in the profile.
- Direct connection with Use proxy or system time zone (recommended): with no proxy to follow, the browser uses the current device’s system time zone.
A multi-hop route follows the actual exit created by the complete route, not the entry proxy’s name or the location of its first hop.
Why the result differs from the previous value
Common causes include:
- The proxy service changed or rotated the actual exit IP.
- The entry proxy’s upstream route changed, producing a different final exit.
- The profile was assigned another proxy or was temporarily switched to a direct connection.
- The location or time-zone result associated with the current exit differs from the earlier check.
- The previous value came from historical information in the proxy list rather than the live check before this launch.
Do not infer the current time zone only from a proxy name, purchased region, or old check result. Compare the exit and browser result from the same launch.
If the new time zone is unexpected
Troubleshoot in this order:
- Fully close the target profile and confirm that no browser process remains.
- Open Proxies and verify the entry proxy assigned to the profile.
- Run Check connection on the entry proxy. If it has an upstream proxy, also run Check full connection.
- Confirm that the detected exit matches the route currently supplied by the proxy provider.
- Relaunch the same profile and check the time zone reported to a webpage. Do not substitute another browser or profile.
- If the exit keeps rotating, compare with a known stable proxy first.
If the normal page exit is also wrong, fix the proxy route before investigating the time zone. See why the proxy check failed and advanced proxies and multi-hop routes.
Why a manually selected time zone did not apply
A fixed time zone applies to a direct connection. When the profile has a proxy, the live exit time zone overrides the saved value so the browser does not continue with a setting that conflicts with the current proxy exit.
If a workflow requires a particular region’s time zone, use a stable proxy whose real exit is in that region instead of repeatedly saving a fixed time zone while another region’s proxy remains assigned. Fully close and relaunch the profile after changing either its proxy or fingerprint settings.
For other setting lifecycle details, see configure a stable browser fingerprint and why profile settings did not apply.
If the exit time zone cannot be detected
A proxied profile must obtain a non-empty time zone before launch. If the proxy cannot reach the exit-information service or the result has no time zone, the launch stops instead of falling back to the proxy cache, a fixed profile value, or the system time zone.
Check whether the proxy expired, whether the full route works, and whether DNS, a firewall, or the current network policy blocks HTTPS access. See fix a profile that will not start with a proxy for the complete workflow.
Before contacting support
Record the assigned proxy, whether it has an upstream route, the time zone shown in the proxy list, the browser’s final time zone, the normal page exit, and the retest time. Redact account details and proxy credentials from screenshots. Never send the full proxy address, username, password, or secret.
Chrome documents that a browser can override the host default with a standard time-zone identifier in the Chrome DevTools Protocol time-zone method. Chrome DevTools location settings also record a time-zone identifier separately within a location preset.
